Sugar production in Indonesia has declined, partly due to suboptimal growth phases of sugarcane plants. This study aims to analyze the growth phases of sugarcane plants using Sentinel-2 imagery with a vegetation index approach, as well as to determine the relationship between plant age and height with index values. The study was conducted on two farmer plots spread across Kencong sub district, Jember Regency, using the Bululawang variety. Data was collected through a combination of Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and direct measurements of plant height in the field. Three vegetation indices were used: NDVI, NDII, and SAVI. The results showed that in the early phase, all three indices were still low (NDVI: 0.181–0.465; NDII: 0.115–0.369; SAVI: 0.149–0.583) due to suboptimal vegetation cover. During the vegetative phase, these values increased significantly (NDII: 0.207–0.616; SAVI: 0.247–0.832), reflecting high canopy density and high water content. The maturation phase showed a decrease in index values (NDVI: 0.787–0.539; NDII: 0.614–0.4; SAVI: 0.813–0.553) due to reduced plant physiological activity. These results demonstrate that SAVI can be used as a reliable indicator for monitoring the growth phases of sugarcane spatially and temporally through remote sensing approaches.en_US
