In Enhancing Student's Reading Comprehension Achievement by using Reciprocal Teaching Strategy: A Classroom Action Research
Abstract
This research aimed at enhancing both students’ reading comprehension achievement and students’
participation at SMKN 5 Jember in the 2017/2018 academic year by applying Reciprocal Teaching strategy. A
classroom action research design that was conducted collaboratively with the English teacher was used. The research
participants of the study were the X Multimedia Department 2 students of SMKN 5 Jember in the 2017/2018
academic year. The result of the analysis and discussion revealed that the use of Reciprocal Teaching strategy could
enhance students’ reading comprehension achievement and their participation. The enhancement of students’
reading comprehension achievement could be seen from the students who get score ≥ 75 which increased from
75.57 in the Cycle 1 to 76.71 in the Cycle 2. The enhancement of students’ active participation was also shown from
78.57% in the Cycle 1 to 81.43% in the Cycle 2. Reciprocal Teaching strategy could help the students comprehend a
descriptive text in predicting, questioning, clarifying, and summarizing.
