    Abstract
Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is one of the vegetables and become part of the food ingredients which is quite frowned upon society. Plant Basil in it also contains essential oils. Given the important role of Basil against human life, then the necessary optimization of cultivation of Basil with hydroponics. Essential content itself is known to be obtained from extracts of basil leaves, so that the necessary wide-sized basil leaves to produce essential oils. Based on these facts, therefore required the addition of NH 4 + dan NO 3 - to stimulate plant growth and cell enlargement. Research carried out in the Greenhouse and Laboratory CDAST University of Jember in May to August 2017. The research method used is the method of complete random design (RAL) consisting of 2 factorial factor treatment. The first factor is that some nutrients concentrations of ammonium (NH 4 + ) consisting of the control, 3 x 10 -3 mol/l, 6 x 10 -3 mol/l. The second factor was is that some nutrients concentrations of nitrate (NO 3 - ) consisting of the control, 3 x 10 -3 164 mol/l , 6 x 10 -3 mol/l. Results show that addition of NH 4 + dan NO 3 - effect on the growth and essential oil content of basil. Concentrations of NH 4 + and NO 3 - (3 x 10 -3 mol/l) are most essential oil yield i.e. 0.050 ml.
