This research was conducted to improve students‟ writing achievement at
SMPN 1 Pujer by using Genre-based Approach. The design of this research was Classroom
Action Research. The research subjects, the eighth grade students were determined by using
purposive method. The instruments for collecting the data were observation, writing test,
and document. The writing test was given to measure the students' writing achievement
after the implementation of Genre-based Approach in the classroom. The observation was
conducted in each meeting. While, the document was used to triangulate and to strengthen
the result of the observations. The result showed that Genre-based Approach gave some
contributions in the process of writing a well-organized text and increased students‟ recount
text writing achievement.
