dc.description.abstractThe data shows that sugar imports is increasing from year to year. Several studies have been conducted to achieve self-sufficiency in sugar, but few studies have looked at whether a region/area has an excellence/potential for further sugarcane development. This study aims to analyze whether sugarcane as one of the commodities in plantation sector has specialization and competitive advantage. The analysis method used in this research is quantitative analysis using dynamic system approach to calculate sugarcane share to Gross Regional Domestic Product, and Shift Share Esteban Marquillas analysis to calculate potency/specialty of sugarcane commodity in Bondowoso regency. The analysis showed that Bondowoso district during 2010-2015 has competitive advantage and specialization in sugarcane, so that Bondowoso district has an opportunity for sustainable sugarcane development in the future. Strategies that can be done is to open new sugarcane plantations fields in other regions that have no sugarcane plantation such as in Binakal, Sempol, and Pakem sub-district.en_US
