Background: Inflammation is normal protective response of tissue injury. One of causative agent inflammation is E. coli. Red beet root have several compounds such as flavonoid, polyphenol and tannins which acts as an anti inflammation. Purpose: This research was to know the effect of red beet root extract against PMN neutrophils and to determine the most effective dose of red beet root extract to reducing the total of PMN neutrophils. Methods: Materials were used red beet root extract which were results of 96% ethanol maceration. The samples used 24 Balb-C mice were divided into 6 groups. Then each groups were induced with 0,001 cc E.coli, then waited for 24 hours. Inflamed mice treated with beet root extract 2000 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, 250 mg/kg, diclofenac sodium and sterile distilled water for 7 days. Blood smears were taken on day 1, 3, and 7. Then, the total of neutrophils was counted using a dissecting microscope. Result: In all groups given red beet extracts, the number of neutrophils increased from day one to third day, then decreased on the seventh day. Conclusion: this study could be concluded that the extract of red beet root could decrease the total of PMN neutrophils mice tail peripheral blood and the most effective dose of this extract was 1000 mg/kg.en_US
