Staphylococcus epidermidis is a bacteria that cause diseases such
as: endocarditis acute infection, liver infection, urinary tract infection, body
odor and acne. Staphylococcus epidermidis is a type of bacteria that is
dangerous because it was resistant to some antibiotics. Therefore, herbal
medicine is one of the alternative material that can be used to inhibit bacterial
growth. It derived from active compounds contained in plants. One of the
plants is Persea americana Mill. In this research, part of the Persea
americana Mill used was leaf. The purpose of this research were to determine
the effect antibacterial compounds ethanol extract and to know the minimal
inhibitory concentration of ethanol extract of Persea americana Mill. leaves on
the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis. This research was an experimental
research laboratory and the methods used in this research was difussion
method. The concentation used in this research were 0,05%, 0,1%, 0,2%,
0,3%, 0,4%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%. The result of this research were
analysed by using SPSS One Way ANOVA test and the results showed that the
ethanol extract of Persea americana Mill had significant effect in inhibiting the
growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis with significance 0.000. The minimal
inhibitory concentration of ethanol extract of Persea americana Mill leaves on
the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis was 0,2% with the diameter zone of
0,50 mm.
