THE IMPLEMENTATION OF STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING IN SOCIAL STUDIES BY IMPLEMENTING COOPERATIVE LEARNING MODEL TYPE RTE
Abstract
The result of observation in implementing social studieson the students of SDN Tegalgede 03 Jember
indicates that learning methods used by the teacher are lecture, question and answer, and assignment. Also, the
teacher and the students discuss about the worksheet together. It is still a teacher-centered learning.The purpose of
this research is to know the implementation of learning process using cooperative learning type RTE in social
studies discussing about social problems at around the areaof SDN Tegalgede 03 Jember. This research uses
qualitative descriptive approach which aims to describe something happening nowadays. It is the implementation of
learning process using cooperative learning type RTE. The methods of data collection used are observasion, test,
interviews, and documentation. Learning process using cooperative learning type RTE makes the students be more
active. The percentage of students’ activity and learning result before implementing cooperative learning type RTE
are 48,4% and 62,6%. Learning process is thereupon implemented by using cooperative learning type RTE and the
results of percentage of students’ activity and learning result become 80,7% and 81,3%. Its result indicates that the
implementation of learning process using cooperative learning in social studies discussing about social problems
around the area makes learning process be more student-centered. Also, it indicatesthat the students’ activity and
learning result in learning process is better.
