Backgrounds: The alveolar bone was an important part of maxilla and mandible
and the excessive alveolar bone resorption increase difficulty of dental treatments. It
needed the regenerative therapy like synthetic bone graft from hydroxyapatite, but it cost
expensive because of Indonesia still import it. Indonesia had local calcium source and can
be used to make hydroxyapatite. Objective: This research conducted to analyze physical
and chemical characteristics of hydroxyapatite from PT. Dwi Selo Giri Mas Sidoarjo calcite
tested using X-Rays Diffractometer (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR). Methods:
Calcite was heated in oven until reached 900
C and hold in 2 hours then mixed with 0.5 M
DHP and heated with microwave in 400 watt for 20 minutes. Dried it with incubator in 50
o
C
for 5 hours then tested with XRD and FTIR. Result: Hydroxyapatite from PT. Dwi Selo Giri Mas
Sidoarjo calcite had similar characteristics with XRD pattern of hydroxyapatite
stoichiometry and HA 200 Jepang. The FTIR result showed identic ions between
hydroxyapatite from PT. Dwi Selo Giri Mas Sidoarjo calcite with HA 200 Jepang, although
there was carbonate ion. Conclussion: This research succeed making hydroxyapatite from
PT. Dwi Selo Giri Mas Sidoarjo calcite which had an identic characteristic with HA 200
Jepang.
