In the recent years, restorative material avaible in dentistry, such as amalgam,
dental resin have started to be left, because they have properties phisical and estetics less
good. Nanotechnology is the science and engineering involved in the design, synthesis,
characterization, and application of materials and devices whose smallest functional
organization in at least one dimension is on the nanometer scale (one-billionth of a meter).
The material’s micro-structure is modified by arranging individual atoms & molecules,
leading to an enormous improvement in the electrical, chemical and physical properties.
The The aims the study is to analize approach nanotechnology in restorative dentistry.
Nanotechnology allow the incorporation of a larger volume of the small sized filler
particles in the resin matrix at a nanoscale level possess a higher modulus of elasticity and
greater flexural, compressive and diametrical tensile strengths, along with improved
hardness, fracture toughness and wear resistance. Also, the decreased inter-particle
distance between the nanofillers reduces the tendency for crack formation & propagation.
Nanofillers also enable an improvement in the material’s esthetic and optical properties.
