Penyakit Periodontal sebagai Faktor Risiko Kelahiran Prematur dan Bayi Berat Lahir Rendah

Abstract

Periodontal diseases could play an etiologic role in the pathogenesis of preterm delivery of low birth weight infants. The cytokine and other inflammatory mediators produced in gingivitis or periodontitis result in local tissue destruction and could reach levels affecting the placental tissue. These sugessted that maternal periodontal disease could be considered as a potential risk factor of PLBW.
