5E Learning Cycle Model is a model of student-centered learning (student
centered) which consists of five phases that are related to each other. The five
phases are engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation.
The scoring system which use in this research is authentic assessment which
consists of self-assessment, portfolio (LKS, post test), performance assessment
and written test score in the teaching and learning activities. This research
uses 5E Learning Cycle Model with authentic assessment which has a purpose
to improve the activity and the students’ physics learning result at SMPN 2
Jangkar Situbondo. This research is classroom action research (PTK) which
use data collection method such as observation, documentation, interviews and
test. The analysis results of students’ activity increased significantly, while the
students’ physics learning results increased just in average. The increasing
results was supported by phase of exploration and explanation on the 5E
learning cycle model that encouraged the students to play an active role in
learning so that students could discuss or share opinions with each other, ask
and answer questions. The increasing results proved that the application of the
5E learning cycle model with authentic assessment could improve the class
VIII B students’ learning results at SMP Negeri 2 Jangkar Situbondo.
