A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS' ABILITY IN USING CONJUNCTIONS IN GUIDED COMPOSITIONS AT SMUN 2 SIDOARJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 1999/2000
Abstract
The second year students of secondary school are categorized as the students who have weaknesses in writing a composition and they often make wrong sentences,especially in using conjunctions. The test was used to take the primary data .Interview and documentation were used to take the secondary data.The purpose of the research was to describe the second year students' ability in using conjunctions in guided compositions at SMUN 2 Sidoarjo in the academic year of 1999/2000.The respondents determination
method was proportional random sampling with 45 respondents.The research result showed that the students' ability in using conjunctions was 32 students or 71,11% who had enough classification and there were 9 students or 20% who had good classification. Then, the bad classification was about 4 students or 8,89%.The students' ability in using coordinate conjunctions was 30 students or 66,67% who had enough classification and there were 6 students or 17,78% who had good classification.Then. the bad classification was about 7 students or 15,56°/o.The students' ability in using coordinate conjunctions was 25 students or 55,55% vtho had enoug classification and there were 10 students or 22,24% ·who had bad classification.The good classification was about 7 students or 15,55%.The last,the very good classification was about 3 students or 6,67%.The students' ability in using conjunctive adverbs was 11 students or 44,44% who had enough classrfication and there were 13 students or 28,89% who had bad classmcation.The good classification was about 11 students or 24,44%. The last,the very good classification was about 1 students or 2,22%.The secord year students' abilrty in using conjunctrve adverbs in composition at SMUN 2 Sidoarjo in the academic year of 1999/2000 are 20 students or 44,44% who have enough classification and there are 13 students or 28,89% who had bad classification.The good classification is about 11 students or 24,44%. The last, the very good classification is about 1 students or 2,22%. It can be concluded that the students' ability in using conjunctions in guided composition is enough.
