PERMINTAAN DAN PENAWARAN SERTA FLUKTUASI HARGA CABAI RAWIT (Capsicum frutescens L.) DI KABUPATEN JEMBER
Abstract
Cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) is known as a flavoring vegetable or
herb needed by the society as a flavoring dish. Increasing population leads to the
increasing consumption of foods, including cayenne pepper while the changes in
production are late. Cayenne pepper farmers face high production risks caused by
climate, natural condition, pests, and diseases. The risk of this production causes a change
in the amount of supply, so that the market prices also change resulted by fluctuations in
supply and demand. For this reason, the researcher wanted to information of factors that
affected cayenne pepper demand in Jember and factors that affected supply of cayenne
pepper in Jember and describe the graph of demand, supply, and prices to facilitate
farmers in conducting the farm management with the maximum profit.
Determination of the research was carried out by purposive method in Jember
Regency, and the research method used was descriptive, correlational, and comparative
methods. Data collection used secondary data, and data analysis methods used were
multiple linear regression and Cobweb analysis.
The research results showed that (1) Factors that affected cayenne pepper demand
in Jember Regency were cayenne pepper prices, number of population and per capita
income, (2) Factors that affected supply of cayenne pepper in Jember Regency were
cayenne pepper price of time t -1, the planting area of time t-1, and production costs of
time t-1, and (3) Demand and supply of cayenne pepper significantly influenced price
fluctuations. Based on the research results, suggestions for this research were that: (1) It
is necessary for the Agriculture Department or agricultural workers to provide
information for farmers about price fluctuations and demand of cayenne pepper, (2) It is
important to run an agro-industrial development of dry cayenne pepper or cayenne
powder to anticipate losses to farmers due to the price decrease of cayenne pepper in
great harvest, and (3) It is required to conduct a research development on cayenne pepper,
particularly in relation to cultivation for planting in various seasons.
