Exploring Users’ Experiences of the Auto-Base Feature On @englishfess_: Challenges and Opportunities In Enhancing Vocabulary Acquisition
Abstract
Vocabulary is essential for English language proficiency, supporting skills like speaking, writing, listening,
and reading. With the rise of technology, platforms like X Application (formerly Twitter) have become valuable tools
for vocabulary learning through social interactions. Among these, the @englishfess_ auto-base provides a space for
anonymous discussions on English learning topics. While X Application’s role in language learning has been studied,
little research focuses on users’ experiences with @englishfess_ specifically for vocabulary enrichment. This study uses
a descriptive qualitative approach to explore the experiences of @englishfess_ users in enhancing their vocabulary. Data
were collected through semi-structured interviews with purposively selected participants and analyzed using thematic
analysis. The findings highlight four key themes: (1) user engagement and satisfaction, (2) vocabulary acquisition
processes, (3) community interaction, and (4) technical challenges encountered on the platform. Participants found the
platform effective for learning vocabulary, appreciating features like the menfess (mention and confess) function while
acknowledging limitations such as restricted access and reduced interactions due to platform changes. The findings
highlight the potential of @englishfess_ as a supplementary tool for vocabulary learning and offer insights for improving
its features to better support language acquisition.
