The Study of Junior High School Students' Local and Global Errors in Writing Descriptive Text
Abstract
This study aims to discover the local and global errors made by seventh-grade students in a kelas unggulan and whether the students in the kelas unggulan also make local and global errors. This study utilized a descriptive qualitative design as the data of this study was taken from 32 descriptive texts of seventh-grade students from the kelas unggulan. The study revealed that there were 72 errors found in local errors with 3 incorrect nouns and 17 incorrect verb inflections, 5 incorrect articles, 7 incorrect auxiliaries, 1 incorrect quantifier form, and 39 other findings in local errors in various subtypes such as conjunctions, main verbs, pronouns, plural pronouns, adverbs, and verbs. There were 21 errors found in global errors with 2 incorrect word orders in the main constituents, 2 missing cues to signify mandatory exceptions to widespread syntactic rules, and 11 incorrect pronouns. There were also 28 other mistakes found such as misspelling, capitalization, and lowercase. This study shows that even students from kelas unggulan still make mistakes in their descriptive texts.
