    Abstract
Along with the development of technology applied in blasting, PT United Tractors Semen Gresik applies various innovations, including efficiency in the amount of explosive used in a blast while still achieving the same or even better quality of blasting results. One of these methods is the Top Air Deck (TAD) method, which blasts by creating an air column in the blast hole that can efficiently use the number of explosives in the blast. Data analysis was carried out in the form of actual powder factor (PF) calculations for both conventional blasting and blasting using a top air deck. Next, analyze the fragmentation size using image analysis with WipFrag 3.3 Software until a fragmentation graph is obtained. The average value of fragmentation in a conventional blast shows that there is about 4.98% boulder formation compared to the TAD method. This shows that the use of the TAD method can overcome boulder formation during blasting compared to conventional blasting. The TAD method provides more optimal fragmentation results with a higher percentage of rocks that pass the sieve compared to the conventional method. The use of smaller PF in blasting with TAD shows that this method can save PF compared to conventional methods. TAD blasting can reduce boulder incidence by 4.98% compared to conventional blasting, as can be seen from the percentages of 80 cm by 4.98%, 60 cm by 10.09%, 40 cm by 0.11%, and 20 cm by 9.9%. The fragmentation results show that the size of the rock from TAD blasting is smaller and more optimal than conventional blasting. Top air deck blasting was able to save PF usage with a percentage saving of 30.18% for plan PF and 16.27% for actual PF compared to conventional blasting.
