Peran Mise en Scene pada Film GUNDALA 2019 dalam Menggambarkan Figur Pahlawan
Abstract
This research examines the role of mise en scene in depicting the hero figure in the
2019 film Gundala, which is the work of a filmmaker, namely Joko Anwar. This film
tells the story of Sancaka, a child with lightning powers who grows up to become a
hero named Gundala. The research uses theories from Bordwell and Thompson,
focusing on elements such as setting, lighting, make-up and wadrobe, as well as the
movements of the players to depict the courage, willingness to sacrifice, never give
up, and patience in the figure of Gundala.
Through observation and literature study, this research found that each element of
the mise en scene in detail plays an important role in building the hero's character.
The use of dramatic lighting can strengthen the impression of courage, while
carefully chosen settings can show the character's struggle and courage. Make-up
and wadrobe, and the movements of the actors are also used to strengthen the hero
figure in this film. Thus, this research concludes that the mise en scene elements
effectively depict the hero figure in the 2019 Gundala film, with the aim of helping
to communicate the hero's values to the audience or audience.
