Efektivitas Penggunaan Membran Nilon-Kitosan dari Cangkang Kerang Mutiara untuk Reduksi Kandungan Mn dan Zn di Air Sumur
Abstract
Water purification can be done using membrane technology. Well water is a crucial source of clean water for the community. However, well water can become contaminated if pollution occurs in groundwater sources. Studies conducted have shown that well water at the Pakusari TPA contains manganese and zinc metals at concentrations of 0.0787 ppm and 0.0543 ppm, respectively. A hybrid membrane was chosen to enhance the membrane's performance in reducing heavy metals. In this research, organic material in the form of chitosan from pearl oyster shells was added to a nylon polymer solution using the phase inversion method. Phase inversion was carried out with different compositions of chitosan, ranging from 0 gram to 0.8 gram. Heavy metal absorption was quantified using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results show that the presence of chitosan in the nylon membrane reduces the degree of swelling. The nylon/chitosan membrane with 0.8 gram chitosan exhibited the highest water flux and the greatest removal of heavy metals (manganese and zinc) compared to the nylon/chitosan membranes with 0.2 gram, 0.4 gram, and 0.6 gram chitosan.
