Pengaruh Intervensi Family Caregiver Empowerment Model (FCEM) terhadap Koping pada Pasien Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Banjarsengon Kabupaten Jember
Abstract
DM (Diabetes Mellitus) is a disease that can cause stress. Family support is needed
as an essential factor in forming coping. The theory that is appropriate and
supports assistance through family caregivers is the Family Caregiver
Empowerment Model (FCEM) theory. This study aimed to determine the effect of
the FCEM intervention on coping in T2DM patients. This quantitative study applied
a randomized control group pre-test and post-test design. The sampling technique
was cluster random sampling involving 85 respondents divided into 41 respondents
as the intervention group and 44 as the control group. FCEM intervention was
conducted in 10 sessions within ten weeks. The instrument used is a coping scale.
We analyzed data using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney test with a significant level
of 0.05. The results showed the increase in the average coping value in the
intervention group was 6.17, and the control group was 0.73. The Wilcoxon test
revealed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test in the
intervention group (p-value=0.000) but no significant difference in the control
group (p-value=0.500). The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference
between the intervention and control groups (p-value=0.000). These results show
the effect of the FCEM intervention on coping in T2DM patients. FCEM is given by
empowering families so that it causes increased knowledge and skills in caring for
T2DM patients. Good empowerment creates self-efficacy in patients so that it
encourages patients to adopt a healthy lifestyle and improves coping mechanisms
in T2DM patients. Family support in the care of T2DM patients will improve coping
in patients. Nurses can empower families through through the application of FCEM
to improve coping in T2DM patients.
