Abstract
UKGS is a public health effort that aims to maintain and
improve the dental and oral health of all students in schools which is supported by
health efforts in the form of promotive, preventive and curative efforts. Dental and
oral health problems, especially dental caries, are mostly experienced by children
at elementary school age. Dental caries is a condition in which the hard layer
outside the teeth (enamel) is eroded by bacteria that produce acid. Dental caries is
influenced by various factors, namely main factors and supporting factors. The
main factors are microorganisms, substrate, host, and time. Supporting factors
include socio-economics, habits, education level, and gender. Purpose: The aim of
this research is to determine the relationship between the UKGS program and
caries status. Methods: This type of research is descriptive analytic with a cross
sectional design. The research subjects at SDN Jelbuk 01 and SDN Sukojember 03
Jelbuk, Jember were 167 students, taken using the random sampling method. The
assessment of UKGS program activities uses a questionnaire totaling 10 questions
given to teachers with the answers "Yes" or "No". Caries status was calculated
using the def-t and DMF-T indices. Results: The results of the Spearman
correlation test showed that there was no significant relationship between the
UKGS program and caries status. (Sig.>0.05). Conclusion: The conclusion is that
there is no relationship between the UKGS program and caries status.
