Abstract
Conductive polymers are polymers that can conduct electricity due to the
presence of conjugated double bonds in the polymer chains. The use of conductive
polymer composites as gas sensors has been proven to be able to detect the aroma
of coffee. Different conductive polymer-based sensors are assembled into array
sensors to distinguish the aroma of coffee from different plantations, namely the
Gumitir, Sidomulyo, Garahan and Ledokombo coffee plantations. The sensors have
been made by mixing the polymer with dopant and other supporting materials and
then coating it on the surface of the electrode. The sensors used are PANi-H2SO4,
PPy-H2SO4, PANi-PPy, PANi-GO, PPy-GO, PANi-PPy-GO, PVAc-GO, and PAA-
GO sensors arranged in a planar model to form a array sensors and then used to
measure coffee vapor. The results obtained are in the form of response patterns that
are different and unique to the coffee of each plantation. The PCA results obtained
also showed that the response of coffee from the 4 different plantations could be
well clustered with a total PC1 and PC2 reaching 80.92%. These results indicate
that the sensor array can distinguish the aroma of coffee from different plantations.
The sensors in the sensor array show good repeatability as indicated by the RSD
value below 5%. The response time for each sensor varies, but overall the response
time is fast, which is under 50 seconds. Each sensor in the sensor array has good
performance for 3 weeks of use but continues to decrease in performance until the
4th week shows the RSD value has exceeded 5%.
