Hubungan Kesepian dengan Sindrom Lansia Lemah pada Lansia di UPT PSTW Jember
Abstract
Loneliness in elderly is a problem due to aging, which causes negative feelings
about relationships with other people, anxiety, depression and affect hormone
release associated with multidimensional frailty, which leads to the frail elderly
syndrome. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between loneliness and
frail elderly syndrome in elderly at UPT PSTW Jember. This study use crosssectional approach, conducted on 82 respondents using total sampling. A
questionnaire to identify respondent characteristics, which included the Short
Portable Mental Status Questionnaire and the Katz Index, UCLA Loneliness Scale
Version 3 to identify loneliness, and Edmonton Frail Scale to identify frail elderly
syndrome. Data were analyzed by Kendall's Tau b test. The results indicated that
elderly at UPT PSTW Jember experienced significant differences in loneliness (pvalue<0.001), which most of the elderly experienced mild loneliness at 47.6%.
The elderly at UPT PSTW Jember are known to have significant differences in
loneliness frail elderly syndrome (p-value <0.001), which most of them
experienced mild frailty at 45.1%. Based on the results of this study, there was a
relationship between loneliness and frail elderly syndrome in elderly at UPT
PSTW Jember (p-value <0.001), very strong and positive relationship was
identified (r = 0.837). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between
loneliness and frail elderly syndrome, higher loneliness score caused higher frail
elderly syndrome score. Therefore, it is important for elderly and nursing home
staff to reduce the loneliness of elderly to reduce the risk of frail elderly
syndrome
