Using Animated Videos to Improve Reading Comprehension of Year 8 Students' Achievement of a Rural Junior High School at Siliragung District
Abstract
This research focused on using animated video to improve students’ reading comprehension achievement at junior high school level. This was an Action Research with a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. This research used semi-structured interviews, observation checklists, and the result of students’ reading comprehension test. These data were analyzed by using interactive models and statistics. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that animated video could help the students comprehend the texts and improve the students’ reading comprehension achievement. This improvement was seen from the results of the actions before and after using animated videos had increased. These happened because animated videos helped the students understand the content of the story. Students could understand the material that they see in the video more easily because the video provided the moving picture, audio, and subtitles that made the information clearer.
