    Abstract
    Formaldehyde plant from methanol is designed with a capacity of 40,000 tons/year and operates continuosly for 330 days/year and 24 hours/day. The process requires methanol as much as 18,006 tons/year, and Iron molybdenum oxide catalyst as much as 19,462 kg/year. The plant is planned to be built in 2027 in the city of Bontang, East Kalimantan. The production process consists of raw material preparation, synthesis process, and purification process. The formaldehyde formation reaction is an oxidation reaction of primary alcohol (methanol) with the help of Iron molybdenum oxide catalyst. The reaction takes place in a fixed bed reactor with operating conditions of temperature 300°C, pressure 1.3 atm. The product purification process is carried out in the accumulator tank which has previously been condensed in the condenser. Utilities supporting the process include water demand of 9,441 kg/hour, steam demand of 3,971 kg/hour, brine demand of 40,631 kg/hour, electricity demand of 171.78 kWh, and fuel of 231.066 liters/hour. The form of the company is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure. The employee work system is categorized into shift and non-shift employees with a total number of 216 employees. The economic analysis of this pre-design shows the profitability and feasibility of a plant to be built with consideration of several aspects including, Annual Cash Flow (ACF) of US$ 5,041,300.44 (38.855%), Pay Out Time (POT) for 3.13 years, and Break Event Point (BEP) of 43.12%.
