Daya Hambat Pasta Gigi Ekstrak Biji Kopi Robusta (Coffea canephora) Terhadap Pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans Secara In Vitro
Abstract
Streptococcus mutans is a bacteria that has a very important role in the process of forming dental plaque. Accumulation of dental plaque that occurs continuously and is not accompanied by good cleaning measures will cause various problems in the oral cavity, such as caries and periodontal disease. Prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease requires plaque control, one of which is brush teeth with toothpaste. Toothpaste containing robusta coffee bean extract contains active antibacterial ingredients such as flavonoids, caffeine, trigoneline, and chlorogenic acid. The aims of this research was to analyze the antibacterial effect of toothpaste containing robusta coffee bean extract at concentrations of 12.5%, 25% and 50% in inhibiting the growth of S. mutans. Robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste concentration of 12.5% 25% and 50% are made by extracting robusta coffee beans using the maceration method and mixing them with placebo paste ingredients. The antibacterial activity test was carried out using the disc diffusion method on MHA media that had been inoculated with S. mutans and then the diameter of the inhibition zone around the disc paper was measured. The results showed that an inhibitory zone was formed around the disc paper at each concentration with significant differences between each concentration. The largest inhibition zone formed was shown in toothpaste with robusta coffee bean extract at a concentration of 50% at 50,57±1,18 mm and the smallest at a concentration of 12.5% at 33,41±1,37 mm. It can be concluded that toothpaste containing robusta coffee bean extract has antibacterial activity to inhibit the growth of S. mutans so that robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste can be developed into a toothpaste product.
