The Cultural Content Analysis on the English Textbook Entitled “Bahasa Inggris” for Eleventh Grade of Senior High School Student
Abstract
The researcher gathered visual artifacts which provide information about cultural categories by Cortazzi & Jin (1999), which are Cultural Types like Source Culture, Target Culture, and International Culture. The data collection used in this research was a documentary method. The data analysis method was Visual Semiotic Analysis, focusing on two layering meanings, which are denotative and connotative were used to analyze the discourse of visual form. The findings showed that there were a total of 6 Source Cultures, 2 Target cultures, and 5 International cultures in the form of images. The data proved that source culture was the dominant cultural value presented in the textbook.
