    Abstract
Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease that is defined as persistent high blood pressure where the systolic pressure is above 140 mmHg and the diastolic pressure is above 90 mmHg. In the elderly population, the systolic pressure is >160 mmHg and the diastolic pressure is >90 mmHg. Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM) therapy is a massage action with touch movements and emphasis on the skin of the back area with gentle strokes for 3-10 minutes which has a relaxing effect on muscles, tendons and ligaments. The method used is a literature review in the form of a literature review obtained from the Pubmed, Google Scholar, and Garuda Ristekbrin databases. After going through the selection stage using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal, 10 journals were obtained, 7 of which used quasy experimental studies, 1 of them used a randomized control trial, 1 of them used Repeated Measures Experiment, and 1 of them used Descriptive. The results of statistical tests on all journals can be shown that there is a significant effect on the interventions carried out, namely Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM) therapy in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients with a test result of p value < 0,05 which indicates that Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM) therapy is effective performed on hypertensive patients. Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM) therapy can be an alternative intervention that can be applied to the problem of lowering blood pressure in hypertension sufferers. The results of this literature review can also be used as material for future writers regarding Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM) therapy or other studies that focus on one type of complementary therapy, due to the limited number of previous studies.
