Parental Involvement in Encouraging Child English Skills Through Digital Literacy: A Case Study
Abstract
Parental involvement in children’s English learning process remains a crucial issue in the EFL context although it has been investigated from different perspectives. This study aims to explore the role of a parent and his strategies in encouraging his daughter’s English skills, and the factors that enable her to develop her English skills through digital literacy. For this purpose, data were collected through a case study by using a semi structured interview with the parent and his daughter who apply digital literacy. The collected data are then analyzed by thematic analysis. The interview yielded three emerging themes: (1) parents' perspective on their involvement in his daughter’s English skills, (2) parental involvement to support the child's (the daughter’s) English skills, (3) Facilitating media in encouraging child English literacy. The results showcase the effectiveness of parental involvement in child English skills and the effectiveness of digital literacy on child English literacy. In other words, parental involvement using digital literacy has a great impact child English skills.
