    Abstract
Flouted maxims are prevalent phenomenon that has been studied in various contexts, one of the phenomena of the flouting maxim occurs in a videos-blogging. Nihongo Mantappu is a YouTube channel that tells about the daily life of Jerome and Tomo as student in Japan. Jerome and Tomo have different first language, they try hard to make the communication run smoothly using their second language, English. In their conversation, they often flout one or more maxims, but the conversation still run well as they understand each other. Using The Cooperative Principles by Grice and Relevance Theory by Sperber & Wilson, this study attempts to observe how the communication between interlocutors become successful even though they flout one or more maxims. There are 14 data in this research that observe by applying qualitative method. The findings concluded that flouting maxim of quality happens due to Tomo and Jerome have different meaning in several English words. Flouting maxim of quantity happens due to Tomo conveys more information that Jerome’s required. While flouting maxim of relevance happens due to both Jerome and Tomo want to convey or emphasize another message from what has been said. The last maxim of manner happens due to Tomo wants to hide a fact. The successful communication between them achieves by calculating the relevance by finding the explicature and implicature. Both Jerome and Tomo find the explicature and implicature in their communication by accessing context of situation about what topic that has been discussed, restoring memories, accessing background knowledge, and making inferences.
