dc.description.abstractIndonesia is a maritime country with a long coastline of 108,000 km. Fishermen's profession is the choice of people living in coastal areas. Women fishermen are the wives of fishermen who have a role in the sustainability of fishing households. The purpose of this research is to describe the role of women fishermen in sanitation, family health, and safety efforts. The method of this study was observational with a crossectional approach. Data is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Respondents in this study were 60 women fishermen which domiciled in Jangkar Village, Situbondo Regency, East Java. The results of this study indicate that the average age of respondents is 35 years old. Most of them graduated from junior high school and have economic activities to help their family finances. Respondents have high hopes for their children to be able to go to college, choose religion-based education, and want to have 3 children. Health services chosen are Public Health Center and monitoring the completeness of child immunization. Respondents recommend the safety effort with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), time to take a rest, preparing the tools to catch the fish, providing a nutritious menu, and supplementary to stay fit while at sea. The sanitation and hygiene condition is still poor because they still burn waste, and the sewerage is not sanitary. It needs to improve education to support business diversity to get economically profitable. The Improvement of sanitation facilities and training on managing household waste is based on an economic improvement to control the environmental pollution in the coastal area.en_US
