| dc.description.abstract | Chronic kidney failure patients can experience depression due to physiological, psychological,
socioeconomic changes and can reduce quality of life. This research aimed to identify
depression in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. This research was a
literature review that applied the PRISMA checklist. Articles were obtained from Sage
Journals, ScienceDirect, PubMed, ResearchGate, ProQuest, Google Scholar, and Garuda
databases published from 2016-2021 and met the criteria. The article's quality assessment used
JBI Critical Appraisal Tools. A total of 11 articles with a cross sectional design were included
in this study. The depression occurrences were between 44% to 100% in three articles
conducted in Indonesia and 32.4% to 68% in seven articles undertaken in various countries.
Most of the patients in this study experienced depression in the mild category. Five articles
stated that respondents underwent hemodialysis for less than one year, three articles stated that
respondents underwent hemodialysis between one to three years, and three articles did not
mention the duration of hemodialysis. Depression can occur in patients undergoing
hemodialysis for less than 12 months or in patients undergoing hemodialysis for longer.
Factors that influence depression are the hemodialysis duration, gender, age, education,
marital status, occupation, income, fatigue, mental fatigue, sleep patterns, physical symptoms,
and living arrangements. Holistic nursing care and proper support from family are needed to
resolve depression in chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. | en_US |
