Efektivitas Pendidikan Kesehatan tentang Penanganan Mood Swing ketika Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) melalui Media Audiovisual terhadap Tingkat Pengetahuan Siswi di SMPN 1 Gianyar
Abstract
Mood swing is one of the many symptoms that appeared when Premenstrual
Syndrome (PMS). Previous studies was found that 88,1% of mood swings before
the menstrual phase. Mood swings experienced by adolescents during PMS had
an impact on health quality, interfere with concentration, achievement, and
activeness during learning activities at school. Previous studies stated that 75% of
young women had a moderate knowledge level about PMS, which indicated that
young women did not have adequate knowledge especially about PMS. This study
aim was to analyze effectiveness of health education on handling mood swing
during PMS via audiovisual media on the knowledge level of students. This study
applied a pre-experimental design with one-group pre-post test type. A total of
104 respondents aged 13-15 were enrolled in this study at June 2021 by using
simple random sampling. The knowledge level was defined as a total score on 19
items quistionnare of knowledge about handling mood swing when PMS. Data
were analyzed by using Wilcoxon test. The result showed that p value 0.000 (p
value < 0.05). The mean value was 16.65 with the lowest score being 11 and the
highest being 19. This showed that health education using audiovisual media is
very effective in increasing the knowledge level of students. The knowledge level
had three indicators, namely know, understand, and apply. These three indicators
was very important in the implementation of health education. This study
suggested the need for health education to students, especially regarding PMS.
