    Abstract
Stunting is a condition where children have a shorter body size than normal children their age. Stunting can be prevented through infant feeding focused on the first 1000 days of a child's life. One of them is through exclusive breast milk (ASI) because the nutrients contained in it are so large. One of the factors that trigger mothers in giving exclusive breastfeeding is culture. A culture that still holds tight to the customs for generations are the Javanese and the Madurese tribes. This study aims to determine the differences in exclusive breastfeeding between the Madurese and the Javanese tribes in stunting prevention. This study uses a comparative descriptive method with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study was mothers who had babies aged 7-23 months. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The sample calculation used the Cochran formula developed by Lemeshow and obtained as many as 56 respondents. Data collection uses giving questionnaires directly to respondents which are carried out door to door. The results showed that 89.3% Javanese tribes gave more exclusive breastfeeding and 71.4% socio-cultural support, while the Madurese tribes 57,1% more did not give exclusive breastfeeding and 67.9% more did not support social culture. There are differences in exclusive breastfeeding between the Madurese and the Javanese tribe (p=0.014). The results of the test using Mann-Whitney test showed that there were differences in exclusive breastfeeding between the Madurese and the Javanese tribe in preventing stunting in the agricultural area of Klabang District, Bondowoso City.
