Abstract
This study aims to examine the role of Bedhag Kopi as a community space in the
development of wine coffee and barista training in Jember Regency. The study was
motivated by the growing specialty coffee culture and the emergence of a
community of coffee enthusiasts who have played a role in introducing wine coffee
as a local specialty coffee product unique to Jember. Bedhag Kopi is not only a
coffee business but has also evolved into a social space, a barista training center,
and a production house for local coffee. This study employs a qualitative research
method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques include
observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants in this study consist of the
owner of Bedhag Kopi, baristas, consumers, and coffee farmers involved in wine
coffee production. Data was analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data
presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that
Bedhag Kopi plays a significant role in the development of wine coffee in Jember
through the coffee community, social media, events, and barista training. Wine
coffee at Bedhg. Kopi has been developed since 2017 through an experimental
coffee fermentation process that produces a unique flavor distinct from regular
coffee. The coffee community serves as a promotional medium, a consumer
education tool, and a shaper of the wine coffee product’s image. Additionally,
Bedhag Kopi underwent a transformation from a coffee shop into a production
house and barista training institution following the COVID-19 pandemic as an
adaptation to the evolving coffee industry and societal changes.
