Abstract

Coconut rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros L.) is the main pest of kopyor coconut, as it attacks growth points and young tissues, thereby reducing plant growth and productivity. The presence of organic matter around the plantation can serve as a suitable habitat and breeding ground for these pests. This study aims to analyze the preferences of rhino beetles towards various types of organic media and determine the most preferred media in kopyor coconut plantations at Agrotourism Hortifarm Lintang Batang. This research was conducted from October to December 2025 in Bukit Batu Village, Cempaga Hulu District, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan. The non-factorial Group Random Design (RAK) was applied with six organic media treatments, namely goat dung, oil palm empty, palm fiber waste, and a combination of 1:1 ratio, with four replications. The observed variables were the number of adult beetles and rhinoceros beetle larvae. Thee data were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA) followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the type of organic media had a very significant influence on the population of adult and larval coconut rhinoceroses. Palm oil empty shelves showed the highest level of preference, while palm oil fiber waste as a single medium showed the lowest preference. These findings suggest that proper management of organic matter around kopyor coconut plantations plays an important role in reducing the potential development of rhino beetle populations.
