Analisis Kebutuhan Perawatan Ortodonti Berdasarkan Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need - Dental Health Component (Iotn-Dhc) Pada Masyarakat Agroindustri Daerah Pesisir dan Perkebunan di Kabupaten Jember

Abstract

Introduction: Malocclusion is a condition of disharmonious dental occlusion that affects chewing, speaking, and facial aesthetics. Malocclusion often occurs in the mixed dentition phase, especially in the second phase of mixed dentition. The level of need for orthodontic treatment and the severity of malocclusion can be measured using one of the orthodontic treatment needs indices, namely the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) Dental Health Component (DHC). DHC is one component of IOTN that assesses the need for orthodontic treatment objectively by examining all dental abnormalities. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of need for orthodontic treatment based on the IOTN-DHC index in coastal and plantation communities in Jember Regency. Methods: This study is a descriptive observational study using a crosssectional approach involving 96 samples classified into two groups, namely 60 samples in the coastal community and 36 samples in the plantation community. This study was conducted at SDN Jenggawah 02 as a representation of the plantation. This study measured the need for orthodontic treatment by measuring the study model of dental impressions using the IOTN-DHC index and then analyzed descriptively. Results: The study found that the need for orthodontic treatment in coastal communities has dominated by light maintenance needs. In the plantation area has a moderate severity of malocclusion. Furthermore, the need for orthodontic treatment in both regions was highest among boys. In coastal areas and plantation areas, the need for orthodontic treatment was highest at age 10.
