Abstract

This research, entitled "The Myth of Bersih Desa Rambut Monte in Krisik Village, Wlingi District, Blitar Regency, and Its Utilization as a Creative Economy Support," aims to examine the myth surrounding the Bersih Desa Rambut Monte tradition in Krisik Village, Wlingi District, Blitar Regency, and its potential role in supporting the creative economy. The study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing Spradley’s ethnographic method and an oral tradition framework. The findings reveal that the myth of Bersih Desa Rambut Monte has been passed down through generations within the community. According to local belief, the myth narrates the story of King Bakah (Mbah Monte), who engaged in battle against Ravana (or Anoman) with the help of a dragon. Due to Ravana’s arrogance and his alliance with the dragon, King Bakah emerged victorious. It is believed that Ravana was cursed to transform into a giant ape with dreadlocked hair, symbolized by the temples or shrines around Telaga Rambut Monte. Additionally, soldiers who disobeyed during the battle were cursed to become the ikan sangkaring (sangkaring fish) found in the Telaga Rambut Monte.
