Abstract

Social media such as Instagram and TikTok make teenagers increasingly exposed to viral culinary content that can affect food consumption patterns. Food is no longer just a biological necessity, but also a part of lifestyle and social trends. This study aims to analyze the effect of Social Media Exposure Duration, Consumption Desire Stimulus, Social Conformity, Recipe and Food Trend Exploration, and Trust in Social Media Content on Superfluous Food Consumption in adolescents in Bangorejo Banyuwangi District. The research uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory research method. The research sample consisted of 100 adolescents aged 15–19 years who were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics. The results of the study show that Social Media Exposure Duration has a negative and significant effect on Superfluous Food Consumption. Consumption Desire Stimulus and Social Conformity had a positive and significant effect, while Recipe and Food Trend Exploration and Trust in Social Media Content had no significant effect. The Adjusted R Square value of 0.536 indicates that the independent variable is able to explain 53.6% of the dependent variables.
