Abstract
from the previous year due to post-harvest damage. One of the causes of post
harvest damage is Sitophilus oryzae L. White glutinous rice is susceptible to S.
oryzae. S. oryzae control is generally using chemical insecticides, which have
negative impacts. Botanical insecticide is the alternative to control S. oryzae.
Chinaberry (Melia azedarach L.) and papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) are
potential as insecticides. Chinaberry leaves contain β-caryophyllene that can
inhibit acetylcholinesterase enzyme. Papaya leaves contain linalool which can
inhibit α-amylase enzyme. The research was conducted at the Pest Laboratory,
Jember University on May 2025. The treatments were A (control), B (10 grams of
chinaberry leaf powder), C (10 grams of papaya leaf powder), D (2.5 grams of
chinaberry leaf powder and 7.5 grams of papaya leaf powder), E (5 grams of
chinaberry leaf powder and 5 grams of papaya leaf powder), and F (7.5 grams of
chinaberry leaf powder and 2.5 grams of papaya leaf powder). The results
showed that chinaberry leaf powder and papaya leaf powder affected the
mortality and repellency of S. oryzae. The highest mortality was found in the
treatment of 5 grams of chinaberry leaf powder and 5 grams of papaya leaf
powder at 46.25%. The highest repellency was found in the treatment of 10 grams
of chinaberry leaf powder at 35%. The combination of chinaberry leaf powder
and papaya leaf was antagonistic at a ratio 1:3, and additive at a ratio 1:1 and
3:1.
