Internalisasi Nilai Tradisional dalam Pengasuhan Anak pada Keluarga Inti Keturunan Ningrat Kerajaan Macan Putih Blambangan

Abstract

This study aims to describe child-rearing practices in a nuclear family of the noble lineage of the Macan Putih Blambangan Kingdom, focusing on the internalization of Javanese traditional values through aspects such as children’s speech, use of Krama language, body language, level of obedience, and forms of respect toward parents. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method on a single nuclear family. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed thematically to identify patterns and meanings of parenting practices within a patrilineal kinship context. The findings indicate that the internalization of traditional values occurs contextually and gradually, with the father positioned as the central figure holding lineage legitimacy and serving as the main bearer of unggah-ungguh, hierarchy, and etiquette values. Children learn to adjust their language, body language, and behavior according to family norms, while maintaining flexibility to meet the demands of modern life. The use of Krama language serves primarily as an introduction to manners, whereas obedience and respect are manifested through discipline, habituation, and daily practices such as waiting for parents to start eating, sitting properly, or performing hand-kissing gestures. Socially and culturally, these child-rearing practices align with general Javanese societal norms but place particular emphasis on the preservation of ancestral values and the family’s noble cultural identity. This study provides an in-depth understanding of how Javanese traditional values continue to be transmitted within a nuclear family of noble descent, highlighting the role of patrilineal kinship in maintaining cultural continuity. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for the development of value-based education and culturally grounded parenting practices in the community.
