Abstract
The Tarutama Nusantara Agribusiness Cooperative operates under fluctuating
customer demand and a partnership-based sales system, which requires
production employees to adapt to adjustments in delivery and packaging
schedules according to customer demand. Management has implemented a more
dynamic job design by expanding the responsibilities and varied tasks of
employees. However, empirical evidence regarding the impact of five core job
design characteristics on employee performance is still unclear. This study aims
to explain the impact of job design on the performance of production employees at
Tarutama Nusantara Agribusiness Cooperative. This study uses an explanatory
quantitative research design with a survey method. The population consists of 30
non-managerial production employees, all of whom are respondents using a
census sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured
questionnaire and analysed using simple linear regression. The results show that
job design has a positive and significant impact on employee performance, with a
significance value of 0.027 and a regression coefficient of 0.323. Further
descriptive frequency analysis shows that feedback and commitment are the most
prominent components contributing to employee performance. Overall, this study
concludes that effective job design plays an important role in improving the
performance of production employees. It is recommended that the cooperative
maintain its feedback practices while strengthening autonomy and reinforcing
employees' understanding of their tasks significance to improve overall
productivity.
