Abstract
Student concept mastery is the ability to understand a learning material that has
been given both in theory and its application in everyday life. The concept of
photosynthesis material in plants is one of the materials in science learning that is
complex and abstract, making it difficult for students to understand because it is
related to other fields of science such as biology and chemistry. Therefore, it
requires good mastery of concepts to understand the material. Virtual Reality is a
technology that utilizes computers or other electronic devices to create a realistic
three-dimensional atmosphere, allowing users to feel the experience through
hearing, sight, and touch, thus forming a virtual world. Virtual Reality can be
used as a learning medium that can visualize things that cannot be observed
directly by the eye such as the photosynthesis process that occurs in plants. The
purpose of this study was to analyze changes in the mastery of the concept of
junior high school students on photosynthesis material before and after using
Virtual Reality and the use of Virtual Reality in developing mastery of the concept
of junior high school students on photosynthesis material. This study uses a type
of qualitative research with a case study approach. The subjects in this study were
14 students from class VII who were taken using purposive sampling technique.
Data were collected through concept mastery tests and in-depth interviews. The
results showed that the mastery of the concept of photosynthesis material in
students changed for the better after the use of Virtual Reality. Thus the use of
Virtual Reality in the learning process can help students in developing mastery of
the concept of photosynthesis material through visualization on Virtual Reality
that allows students to explore the phenomenon of photosynthesis that occurs in
plants more realistically.
