Abstract

Science learning encourages students to learn concepts scientifically, this certainly trains students' thinking processes. Science learning becomes uninteresting because students find it difficult to understand science concepts. The choice of learning model that is still teacher-centred makes students less critical in responding to problems because of the habits of students who tend to be passive in receiving material. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect and improvement of students' critical thinking skills using a guided inquiry learning model accompanied by multirepresentation-based LKPD. This type of research is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent (pre-test and post-test) control-group research design. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Tempeh which consists of 9 classes and 2 classes as samples, namely the experimental class and the control class. Data collection techniques through tests in the form of pretests and postests, observation, interviews and documentation. The data obtained were analysed using normality test, homogeneity test and independent sample t-test and N-gain test. The results showed that there was an effect of guided inquiry learning model accompanied by multirepresentation-based LKPD on students' critical thinking skills. Students' critical thinking skills also increased after applying the guided inquiry learning model accompanied by multirepresentation-based LKPD.
