Abstract
The national education system aimed to enhance students’ thinking skills,
particularly critical thinking. At the elementary school level, critical thinking was
a fundamental skill that supported analysis, evaluation, problem-solving, and
systematic reasoning. Therefore, strengthening critical thinking from an early age
was essential to prepare students for future challenges. This study aimed to develop
a STEM-based educational game using Construct 2 to improve fifth-grade students’
critical thinking skills on the topic of ecosystems. This study employed the ADDIE
model for research and development (R&D). Data collection techniques included
interviews, questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The subjects were fifth
grade students at SDN Kemuningsari Lor 01. Data analysis techniques included a
validity test using the Valpro formula, an effectiveness test using the N-Gain score,
and a practicality test based on the SAS formula. The validity test yielded a score
of 83.5, indicating that the educational game was highly feasible for use in learning.
The effectiveness test produced an N-Gain score of 68%, categorized as moderately
effective, based on pre-test and post-test results, showing that the game enhanced
students’ critical thinking skills. The practicality test yielded a score of 91.8,
categorized as very practical, indicating that the game was easy to implement.
Based on the results of the validity, effectiveness, and practicality tests, it can be
concluded that the STEM-based educational game was valid, effective, and
practical for improving elementary students' critical thinking skills.
