Abstract

Service of antibiotics without a prescription is a form of antibiotic misuse which can cause antibiotic resistance problems. Pharmacists have an important role in preventing antibiotic misuse. Pharmacy staff knowledge of antibiotics can impact appropriate dispensing practices. This study aims to assess pharmacy staff's knowledge about antibiotics, antibiotic resistance, and the practice of providing non-prescription antibiotic services, as well as identifying factors that influence non-prescription antibiotic services in Lumajang Regency pharmacies. A cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted using a questionnaire among pharmacy officers in Lumajang Regency which includes Lumajang District, Sukodono District, and Tekung District. The results of this study show that the average knowledge of pharmacy staff in Lumajang Regency is 7.16. A total of 90.91% of pharmacy staff stated that they had never provided antibiotics without a prescription. The main factor driving this practice is knowing the risk of antibiotic resistance.
