Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the STEM approach assisted by PhET Simulation on the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in the IPAS (Science and Social Science) subject at SDN Sumbersari 01 Jember. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The subjects consisted of two classes, VA as the experimental class and VB as the control class, each with 26 students. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test administered through pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using homogeneity testing, normality testing, an independent sample t-test, and relative effectiveness analysis. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. The independent sample t-test obtained a tcount of 5.294 and a ttable of 2.011, indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two classes. The relative effectiveness test yielded a value of 51.4% in the moderate category, demonstrating that the STEM approach assisted by PhET Simulation is more effective than conventional learning in improving student achievement, particularly in the topic of electrical concepts. Therefore, this approach can be recommended as an innovative learning alternative in elementary schools
