Abstract

Care burden is a factor that influences coping in caregivers. Caregivers who have a high care burden tend to have poor coping. Caregiver coping needs to be improved by providing the knowledge needed to become a caregiver. The Family Caregiver Empowerment Model is an empowerment that can be carried out to provide family knowledge and understanding regarding the care of T2DM patients. This study aims to prove the effect of FCEM on the coping of family caregivers of T2DM sufferers in the Sumbersari Jember Community Health Center work area. The research design used was a quasi-experimental design with pre-test post-test with a control group design. The sample for this study consisted of 74 family caregivers (intervention group = 35 and control group = 39) obtained using a cluster random sampling technique in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data on koping of family caregivers were obtained using The Coping Scale and analyzed descriptively and statistically (Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test). Wilcoxon test results in the intervention group showed a p - value of <0.001 and in the control group showed a p - value of <0.001. The results of the Mann Whitney test showed that there was significant difference between the intervention and control groups (p=0.007). From the research results, it can be concluded that FCEM intervention affects caregiver coping.
