Abstract
This research focuses on the design of a high-speed ambulance boat for the Kangean–Kalianget route, addressing the urgent need for medical evacuation in remote island regions. The main problem identified is the prolonged travel time and limited vessel availability, which can critically delay emergency medical responses. The objective of this study is to develop a technically feasible ambulance vessel capable of operating safely and efficiently in such coastal conditions. The design process uses a point-based design method, starting with mission requirement definition, followed by the determination of main dimensions, hull modeling, and technical analyses including resistance calculation, engine power estimation, weight analysis, and stability evaluation. The vessel is designed as a monohull with a hard chine configuration, which is favorable for high-speed performance and simpler fabrication. The final design has a waterline length of 12.3 m, beam of 2.9 m, draft of 0.7 m, and height of 1.7 m. The total resistance at 22 knots was found to be 13.2 kN, requiring approximately 271 kW of engine power, which is fulfilled by two Yamaha F250 outboard engines. The vessel’s displacement is 10.32 tons and its stability complies with BKI (Indonesian Classification Society) standards. Although the design meets technical and stability criteria, seakeeping analysis was limited to two wave directions (0° and 90°), indicating a need for further evaluation. The outcome of this study is expected to serve as a reference for developing similar medical transport vessels in other island regions
