Abstract
Well Z is a directional well located in Central Sumatra. This well is situated
in the Telisa Formation and has a target depth of 2800 feet. The evaluation of
casing grades was conducted using the maximum load method to achieve cost
efficiency related to casing use and cement composition. The evaluation results
indicate that the J-55 casing grade is safe for both surface and production casing.
For the surface casing with a weight of 36 ppf, the burst, collapse, tension, and
biaxial loads are calculated sequentially as 858.48 psi, 1048.32 psi, 39319.69 lbs,
and 1828.1 psi. For the production casing with a weight of 23 ppf, the burst,
collapse, tension, and biaxial loads are calculated sequentially as 1194.72 psi,
1422.72 psi, 34,092.67 lbs, and 2740.26 psi. However, the most economical casing
grade for the surface casing is H-40 with a weight of 32.3 ppf, which has burst,
collapse, tension, and biaxial loads calculated sequentially as 858.48 psi, 1048.32
psi, 35,278.5 lbs, and 1152.02 psi. Meanwhile, for the production casing, the J-55
grade with a weight of 20 ppf is used. This choice offers more economical costs and
lower specifications while still being capable of handling the casing load. The
burst, collapse, tension, and biaxial loads for J-55 casing with a weight of 20 ppf
are sequentially calculated as 1194.72 psi, 1422.72 psi, 29,645.8 lbs, and 1846.04
psi. The cement mixture used for the surface casing includes G cement, fly ash, and
Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS). For the production casing, the
cement mixture comprises G cement, glass bubbles, cenospheres, water, fly ash,
and bentonite. The cost difference is USD 3572.59.
